A selection 5 of the newest Chilean films and will open in Vancouver on November 30th running until December 6th at Vancity Theatre.

The Cultural Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, the Consulate General of Chile in Vancouver and Iberoamerican Images are proud to present “Cine Chile 2012, A Festival of Contemporary Chilean Cinema in Canada”. Cine Chile 2012 is the continuation of previous efforts (2006 and 2008) made by the different participants in this endeavour to bring to Canada recent releases from one the most prolific film industries in Latin America. Selected films include Andres Wood’s critically acclaimed biopic Violeta went to Heaven (2011) that  traces the evolution of iconic musician, folk singer, poet and artist Violeta Parra from her impoverished childhood to international sensation; Salt (2012), a Chilean Spaghetti Western shot against the backdrop of astounding landscapes  of Atacama desert by Argentinian director Diego Rougier; Sebastian Lelio’s Year of the Tiger (2011) which evokes the horror of the earthquake that rocked Chile in 2010 from the view point of a prison fugitive wandering across a countryside in ruins; Ulysses (2011) a nuanced psychological portrait of a Peruvian immigrant worker  living in Santiago de Chile by director Oscar Godoy; and Sebastian Brahm’s first feature film Roman’s Circuit (2010) which mixes actual and invented ideas on neuroscience to look at the life of a once promising scientist coming to terms with his declining career. Cine Chile will open in Vancouver on November 30th running until December 6th at Vancity Theatre.
